A few words About Me

I graduated from the Department of Biology at the University of Athens and, after a short training period in Germany, continued my Postgraduate Studies in Greece. I completed the Master’s program “Molecular Basis of Human Diseases” at the Medical School of the University of Crete, where I realized that the field of Regenerative Medicine was of particular importance to me. For this reason, I pursued my PhD at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA), focusing on the properties of human stem cells and their therapeutic applications in Regenerative Medicine.

After completing my PhD, I conducted postdoctoral research for five years at two major research centers in Italy, working in the fields of stem cells and Nanotechnology. My desire to return to Greece, combined with receiving a fellowship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), allowed me to work as a postdoctoral researcher/scientific associate at the Medical School of the University of Athens, where I was able to combine research with teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Medical Schools of Athens and Crete.

After the fellowship ended, I moved to Brussels, where I am currently employed at the Directorate‑General for Research and Innovation of the European Union, providing administrative support for research programs and consortia in the field of health innovations.

Why I Chose My Career

Biology captured my interest very early in school. In high school, when we were introduced to the latest scientific breakthroughs—such as DNA decoding and cloning—I decided that I wanted to pursue research in the health sciences. Throughout my studies, the combination of theoretical and practical knowledge helped solidify this decision.

Through my Postgraduate Studies, I had the opportunity to meet exceptional professors and researchers from Greece and abroad and to discover the field of stem cells, which holds highly promising therapeutic applications. Engaging in research keeps you in constant pursuit of new knowledge, encourages you to ask new questions, and makes you feel active and alive.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

During my professional career, I worked for six years as a biology teacher in public secondary schools. It is extremely important for students to have the opportunity to learn more about the
