• Doctoral Studies

I am a first‑year PhD student and Gates Scholar at the University of Cambridge. I am also an Associate Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University and a Modern Greek language instructor at Trinity College Dublin.

My research focuses on the role of prosody and socioeconomic status in reading. I am particularly interested in how prosody is used during silent reading (in other words, when we “read in our head”), and I plan to conduct my research with bilingual children.

I am also active in feminist academic spaces, particularly in the academic activities division of FYL.IS at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and I will be the editor‑in‑chief of The Scholar, the magazine published by Gates Scholars and alumni for 2022. I love video games, makeup, museums, and ruining my academic reputation by posting memes.

Why I Chose My Career

I was in the third year of my undergraduate studies when one of my professors hinted that I would probably end up doing a PhD. I denied it completely and genuinely believed that “this isn’t for me.” After graduating, I realized how much I missed the university environment. During the first semester of my Master’s—while I was also teaching—I finally accepted that I wanted to continue with doctoral studies and pursue research and teaching. My goal now is to become a university professor. I think this all stems from an inner need to contribute and make people’s lives even a little bit better.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

I have been an active volunteer since 2014 and now volunteer as a mentor in several initiatives. I grew up attending public school, without structured guidance, and simply studied what I loved. However, I was surrounded by voices discouraging me from this path, and I understand the anxieties that arise from such “noise.” For a young person, this is a difficult yet crucial stage, where support and a voice of empathy and clarity are essential. I hope to be that voice.
