A few words About Me

I began my studies in 2014 at the Department of Biology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. My interest quickly shifted toward plant science—ironically, the field I had the least exposure to at the time—which is exactly why it captured my curiosity. After completing my studies (2018–2019), I continued working in the Plant Physiology Laboratory and the department’s seed bank. In the summer of 2020, I started my PhD in the Botany Division of the Department of Biology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, titled “Reproductive biology of Greek orchids.”

My research focuses primarily on the reproductive biology and evolution of Greek orchids, as well as the conservation biology of rare and endangered plant species in Greece.

Why I Chose My Career

I have always been excited by research and the pursuit of new knowledge. Through the professors and researchers I have had the privilege to work with, I discovered a deep interest in conservation biology. Combined with the unique characteristics of orchids—unlike any other plant group—this led me to study them as early as 2015, while I was still an undergraduate student.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

I believe there are significant gaps in public awareness regarding environmental sciences and the growing importance they hold in our daily lives. With climate change at our doorstep and biodiversity facing increasing threats each year, it is crucial for young people to turn toward the conservation of both macro‑ and microorganisms.
