A few words About Me
I’m Marianna, and I am currently a PhD Candidate in Genetics at the University of Thessaly. More specifically, I study the genetic basis of male infertility with the goal of developing a test that evaluates fertility through a simple blood sample. At the same time, I participate in several other projects focused on genetics.
I am a graduate of the Department of Biochemistry & Biotechnology at the University of Thessaly and hold a Master’s degree from the same department (Advanced Experimental and Computational Biosciences). I truly love my field of study—especially bioinformatics analyses and scientific writing. Since writing has been a favorite hobby of mine since childhood, I have also written articles on contemporary scientific topics (Science Communication), aiming to bring science closer to as many people as possible, as I am deeply interested in communicating science to the public.
Why I Chose My Career
During my studies in Biochemistry & Biotechnology, I had the opportunity to explore many different scientific fields and organisms (Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, etc.). Ultimately, I was captivated by the fascinating world of Biology—and more specifically, Genetics. The idea of studying an organism’s genetic material and learning about it simply from a sequence of letters, of bases, is incredibly intriguing and appealing to me.
Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science
I remember myself as a student, full of questions about what a Biologist, a Chemist, and other scientists actually do. I believe this platform is an excellent tool for informing students. Through R.E.A.L Science, I would love to talk to kids about the beautiful world of science, share my enthusiasm, and help them in any way I can.
