A few words About Me

Hello! I’m Katerina. I have completed my Undergraduate Studies in General Biology, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in the program “Applications of Biology in Medicine” at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. As a naturally curious person, I love engaging in different activities and exploring new hobbies. I have always been drawn to the sciences—especially Medicine and Biology. The constant progress and ongoing research in these fields excite me and keep me motivated.

After graduating as a Biologist, I found myself overwhelmed by the many career options available. So, despite everyone telling me to immediately pursue a Master’s degree, I chose to work first in a diagnostic laboratory specializing in Molecular and Cytogenetic Biology. I have now been working there for 2.5 years, gaining valuable experience and a clearer sense of direction. With this maturity and awareness, I decided to begin my Postgraduate Studies alongside my job.

Today, my thesis focuses on research related to Alzheimer’s disease and Neuroscience more broadly.

Why I Chose My Career

Before starting my studies, my biggest dilemma was whether I wanted to work in a field related to humans or one focused on the environment and animals. Biology was the only way to combine both. Even though I currently work in Molecular Biology and Neuroscience, my interest in environmental and animal‑related fields remains strong, and I hope to explore them in the future.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

R.E.A.L. Science plays an important role in providing proper guidance and information to students regarding career orientation—something that, unfortunately, our educational system does not adequately offer. Through the experiences of others, we often gain clarity about the current reality without unnecessary stress. I’m happy to contribute to this effort and support students in making informed decisions.
