A few words About Me

Iro Koliakou teaches Biology and Physics at the Anatolia College Middle School. She is a member of the school’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) team, coordinating STEM‑related classroom activities, and she serves as a Scientix Ambassador, promoting and supporting collaboration among STEM educators across Europe.

She is also a member of the Center for Talented Youth (CTY Greece) of Johns Hopkins University, where she teaches the online course Biomedical Technology. She holds a degree in Physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), a Master’s degree from Imperial College London specializing in Biomedical Technology, and she is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Biology at A.U.Th.

She has ten years of research experience as a member of research groups in Researcher A and B positions, as well as in project coordination. She has published eight papers in international scientific journals and has participated in national and international research programs. Her scientific interests include innovative and creative learning and assessment methods, skill‑based learning, classroom gamification, and virtual learning environments.

Why I Chose My Career

From a young age, I loved exploring and learning. I was fortunate to have people who supported me throughout my educational journey, both at home and at school.
