About Me

I’m Sevi, and I am an English language teacher. I specialize in curriculum design and adult education, and I have taught in both monolingual and multilingual learning environments in Greece and the UK.

My first experience in a multilingual classroom was in Greece—and I loved it.
I served as an elected member of TESOL Greece for three years, during which I helped organize educational seminars and conferences with speakers from Greece and abroad.

In Oxford, I joined the University of Oxford’s Greek theatre group, and for five years I participated in theatre productions, promoting modern Greek theatre to an international audience.
I enjoy traveling and exploring international cuisine, as well as theatre and the arts. I continue to learn new things to grow both professionally and personally. I currently live in Oxford with my husband.

Why I Chose My Career

“The accidental teacher.”
My journey in education began completely by accident. In fact, when I was at university, becoming a teacher was the one thing I was sure I didn’t want to do. I had chosen a variety of courses in linguistics, theatre studies, translation, and pedagogy.

But three weeks after graduating, my first job found me—and it happened to be at the English language school where I had been a student for 14 years. That’s how my teaching journey began. By accident. That’s why I describe myself as an “accidental teacher.”

Many years have passed since then, yet I still feel as if I started teaching only yesterday. My relationship with my students has always been—and still is—the reason I remain in the field of education.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

This was the question I dreaded throughout my school years because I simply didn’t know. Even at the end of compulsory education, I still had no idea what I wanted to do. And honestly, no one ever gave me the opportunity to ask questions or learn about different fields. The only thing I knew was that I had a talent for languages.

Through my volunteer work, I want to help young people discover details about my field (linguistics and teaching methodology) and give them the chance to make informed decisions about their future.
