A few words About Me

Ioannis was born in Ioannina. He is a Materials Science Engineer specializing in Biomedical Engineering, a PhD Candidate in Computational Neuro‑Radiology (UoI/Harvard), and a Science Communicator. In 2018, he represented Greece in the Global Science Communication competition “FameLab” in the United Kingdom. That same year, he founded TEDxMaviliSquare, the largest volunteer‑run organization in Epirus, Greece.

From 2020 to 2022, he worked at SciCo as a Project Manager, contributing to projects such as the Athens Science Festival 2021, the Aegean Science Festival 2021, the Ioannina Science Festival, and MEDnight 2021. He also teaches university‑level seminars in Science Communication. Since 2022, he has been the Science Ambassador for Greece at the Center for Open Science, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, and one of the contributing authors of the collective scientific volume “Teaching of Biology: Complete teaching proposals for Biology instruction in Greek high schools.”

Since 2023, he has been a member of the European Society of Radiology, the European Stroke Organization (ESO), and a researcher at the Laboratory of Medical Physics at the University of Ioannina Medical School.

Why I Chose My Career

My love for science, the human body, and the brain led me to the field of Biomedical Engineering. New computational methods, innovative imaging techniques, and the development of advanced neurological applications for mapping and studying the human brain are all reasons that inspire me to follow this path and pursue my dream.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

Through this role, I hope to introduce students to a new engineering specialty—one of the newest in Greece. I want to show that science continues to evolve and expand, and that scientific fields should not stand alone. When they are combined, the results can be truly extraordinary.
