A few words About Me
My name is Georgios Poulentzas, and I am originally from Trikala, Thessaly. In November 2019, I graduated from the School of Pharmacy at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and I went on to complete my Master’s degree at the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace in 2021. I am currently pursuing my PhD at the Centre of Integrative Biology at the University of Trento in northern Italy.
For me, working in the field of anticancer drug development carries deep personal meaning. I consider it a tremendous privilege to contribute—even in a small way—to improving the lives of patients facing such a difficult and significant challenge. After completing my PhD, I hope to continue conducting research in this area, contributing to the discovery of drugs targeting innovative pathways in cancer.
Why I Chose My Career
From my very first year in Pharmacy School, I knew I wanted to pursue research, even though I didn’t yet have a specific field in mind. Around my third year, I took a series of courses in Epigenetics, and I was fascinated by how epigenetic and epitranscriptomic mechanisms operate behind the scenes to shape cellular functions. A personal experience later became the final push that led me toward epigenetic and epitranscriptomic cancer research.
Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science
Aside from advice from friends, I never had proper guidance or information about what it really means to work in research. For that reason, I want to help younger students as much as I can—offering advice, encouragement, and insight into research‑oriented career paths.
