A few words About Me
I am a Geoinformatics and Surveying Engineer and hold two specialized MSc degrees, as well as pedagogical certification from ASPAITE (EPAIK). From 2009 to 2018, I worked as a freelance engineer running my own technical office. Since 2019, I have been employed in the public sector at the Ministry of Culture.
My scientific fields include Geoinformatics (GIS, geodesy, surveying, UAVs, remote sensing and photogrammetry, computer science and teaching, mapping, cultural heritage). I have participated as a speaker in dozens of national and international conferences and workshops on topics related to Geoinformatics and its sub‑disciplines.
With the four‑member team PROMETHEUS and our project My Prometheus Fire, we won first place in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017. I have also served as a mentor and judge in several hackathons and datathons (MIT Covid20, NASA Space Apps 2018–2020, Healthathon, Tap2Open, Copernicus–Corallia, Eugenides Foundation – Hack the Lab).
I served as President of the Panhellenic Association of Geoinformatics & Surveying Engineers for the 2015–2017 term and again for 2019–2021. Over the past four years, I have been actively involved in adult education, teaching GIS, CAD, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Mapping, and computer skills.
Why I Chose My Career
There are many reasons why I chose this specialty and career path. The then‑unknown field of Geoinformatics immediately caught my attention. My love for geometry, mathematics, and computer science strengthened this interest.
As I continued my studies and discovered the various branches of Geoinformatics, I felt an even stronger attraction to spatial thinking and the understanding of Earth’s space. This field helped me develop spatial reasoning, orientation, and a deeper understanding of our planet.
A career in Geoinformatics never truly ends. Promoting and advancing this multidisciplinary science in Greece requires continuous effort. Today, in the 21st century, geospatial information is part of almost everything we do.
Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science
First and foremost, because of my commitment to volunteerism. I strongly believe in voluntary contribution and teamwork, especially when it relates to my field. Through the association where I serve as president and volunteer instructor, I have been offering free training seminars and webinars over the past year.
Additionally, I am passionate about connecting Geoinformatics with education and young learners. A personal goal of mine—supported also through the association—is to promote Geoinformatics as an educational tool across all levels of schooling in Greece.
Spatial thinking is a fundamental human cognitive ability, and in children it must be cultivated and developed from an early age. Spatial intelligence is one of the nine intelligences described by Howard Gardner in his theory of multiple intelligences.
