About Me

Dr. Areti Mourka completed her undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies at the Department of Physics of the University of Crete, followed by Doctoral Studies at the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of St Andrews in the United Kingdom.

She has extensive experience in research, project design, and research management/development, as well as in teaching, in the fields of Nanotechnology, Laser Beam Shaping, Laser‑based Materials Processing, 3D Printing, and Materials Engineering.

She recently assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Patras Advanced Technologies IKE. She joined R.E.A.L. Science as a volunteer because she believes strongly in the value of mentoring — a process through which we learn, grow, and strengthen our skills.

Why I Chose My Career

At school, I was naturally drawn to the sciences, and a wonderful Physics teacher I had in middle school helped me understand and fall in love with the subject. I decided I wanted to study Physics or Chemistry to better understand the world around me, and this decision grew even stronger during my studies at the University of Crete.

Through mentoring, we learn a great deal, gain confidence, and develop our skills through a meaningful guidance relationship.
