About Me
Hello, visitor! I’m Anthi — a geologist from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and I have completed my Postgraduate Studies in the School of Civil Engineering at A.U.Th., specializing in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development.
I absolutely love geology, and I want every child to discover it and fall in love with their natural home — the Earth. As part of my teaching internship, I gave a presentation about our planet to every class in the elementary school I once attended, helping students get to know the science of Geology. Afterwards, the children participated in hands‑on activities (clay models, drawings) depending on their age.
I also created a Mineral and Rock Collection and displayed it in showcase cabinets in a central area of the school.
I took part in a two‑month ecotourism pilot program in mountainous Nafpaktia with the organization EcoGenia. The goal was to promote sustainable tourism in mountain regions through the development of hiking trails, cultural activities, and volunteer actions. As a certified first‑aid instructor, I also served as the safety officer.
I completed the School of Self‑Protection and Emergency Response by the Hellenic Rescue Team, where I learned practical methods of weather forecasting, water‑related hazards and self‑rescue, actions in fast‑flowing waters and floods, causes of accidents, mountain rescue, disaster response, and disaster psychology.
For many years, I have also worked as a camp leader (children’s camps and camps for adults with disabilities), gaining valuable experience in interacting with and supporting young people.
I have many interests, but my favorites are dance and theatre.
Why I Chose My Career
My love for the environment we live in, the urgent need to protect it, and my curiosity about what lies beneath the ground are the main reasons that drew me to the fascinating world of Geology.
Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science
This platform is the most effective way to:
- talk with students about the Earth and hear their impressions
- demystify the “unknown” science of Geology
- explore the impressive interior of our planet in an interactive and engaging way
Ultimately, Geology concerns us far more than we think. I have many ideas and I’m ready to create the corresponding educational material.
For in‑person school visits, we can start with a classroom presentation and then move on to a fun “mineral and rock hunt” in the schoolyard.
