Agapaki Maria

  • Heraklion, Crete, Greece
  • Postgraduate Studies

I studied Primary Education at the University of Patras and continued with postgraduate studies in the Interdepartmental Master’s Program “Brain and Mind” at the Medical School of the University of Crete.

I am currently working as a research associate in Professor Papatzikis’ lab at the Metropolitan University of Oslo in Norway, which focuses on research topics within Neuroscience, Psychology, and Music. My main research interests lie in Developmental and Clinical Neuroscience, with a particular focus on:

neuroplasticity and music,
music and the infant brain,
early diagnosis and intervention for neurodevelopmental disorders (autism, ADHD).

Why I Chose My Career

My strong interest in neuroscience began during my undergraduate studies, when I took the course “Introduction to Neuroscience” for the first time. From that moment, I developed a deep desire to understand the human brain and its functions in depth.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

R.E.A.L Science is an opportunity for me to advise, encourage, and share my experiences with young people who want to pursue research — and especially neuroscience — even if they come from a background in the humanities (such as education).
