About Me

I’m Achilleas, a graduate of the Department of Fisheries Technology–Aquaculture at the University of Applied Sciences of Western Greece. I am currently a postgraduate student in the Department of Agriculture, Ichthyology & Aquatic Environment in Volos, where I am conducting my Master’s thesis on the cryopreservation of sperm in farmed fish.

More specifically, I work on applying protocols that examine the effect of a hormone on the cryopreservation of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) sperm. My goal is to continue conducting research in this field in the future.

Alongside my studies, I volunteer with the marine‑environment protection organization iSea, and I am an active member of an Environmental Group against pollution in the city of Volos.

I love hiking in nature and engaging in marine activities (swimming, observing marine organisms). I’m also passionate about music and reading encyclopedic books.

Why I Chose My Career

I have always been fascinated by the marine environment. From a young age, I read and learned everything I could about sharks and jellyfish, and I’ve always been captivated by Zoology and the Physiology of organisms.

I also believe that the field of ichthyology and aquaculture has a great deal to offer — both economically and scientifically — which motivated me to pursue this path.

Why I Became a Volunteer at R.E.A.L Science

I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, and I believe it is extremely important to highlight innovative scientific fields and make them more visible to young people.
